Canningvale is Australia’s premier Brand in Home textiles – with products for the Bathroom, Bedroom and Beach.
Founded in 1977 by Giovanni Prainito in Perth, Western Australia, the business was originally registered as San Marco Textiles Pty Ltd.
Before migrating to Australia, Giovanni owned a small share in a boutique terry towel mill in Bergamo, Italy and after a fishing vacation to Perth in 1975, decided to move his business to Australia. Giovanni’s eldest son, Frank (Francesco) soon joined his father in the family business and by 1981 the company name changed to Canningvale Weaving Mills Ltd. The company was named after the Perth suburb of Canning Vale, in which it was located.
In 1997, Canningvale began exporting terry towels to the U.S.A. Canningvale designed and manufactured the first towel collection for Tommy Hilfiger. Canningvale also designed and manufactured towel ranges for fashion retailers Bloomingdales, Macy’s, Strouds and Eddie Bauer.
Though Canningvale originated as a boutique manufacturer of terry towels, by the year 2000 it had become the largest and most technologically advanced towel mill in Australia. At it’s peak production capacity, Canningvale was producing up to 57,000 towels per day, 7 days a week. In addition to manufacturing and wholesaling Canningvale products, we also designed and manufactured textile products for Country Road, Sheridan Australia, Sportscraft, Designers Guild, as well as the majority of retail private label towels.
In 2008, the company changed its trading name to Canningvale Australia Ltd.
Following the devastating Black Saturday bushfires in February 2009, Mr. Prainito donated over $150,000 worth of products
to many Victorian families who had lost their homes.
